€350k Joyce first edition’s odyssey ends by being posted back to Cork

A literary treasure was sent from the US, by ordinary post, in a brown paper wrapping to a local society in Cork.

But the Irish-American sender of the signed first edition of James Joyce’s Ulysses didn’t realise the delightful gift, to the people of Macroom, would present a “headache” for Cork County Council.

The book has been given a conservative value of €350,000.
