Woman, 82, dies after fall while cleaning windows
It is believed Sarah Theelin stumbled through the opening at her home on North Cumberland St at 8.30pm on Monday while attempting to clean her windows.
The 82-year-old, who is known locally as Sadie, had just returned from visiting a relative in a nearby flat.
Ms Theelin had lived on her own in the Avondale House complex in the north inner city following the death of her husband a few years ago. The couple had no children.
The alarm was immediately raised by an eyewitness to the incident. Although Ms Theelin was rushed by ambulance to the Mater Hospital, she was pronounced dead a short time later.
The victim’s sister, Catherine, expressed shock at news of the accident.
“We had asked her to stay with us many times but she liked living in her own flat.”
A preliminary examination of the scene indicated that Ms Theelin may have climbed on a chair in order to clean bird droppings from her window when she lost her balance and fell through the opening.
Her sister expressed surprise at Ms Theelin’s ability to get on a chair, as she suffered from arthritis.
Garda said they were treating the incident as a sudden death.
