Permanent TSB and AIB have confirmed that recordings of conversations at the time of the bailout exist in both institutions — but Bank of Ireland has refused to comment.

There is no legal requirement set down by the Central Bank for banks to record conversations, even if those conversations are orders to execute deals from the their own treasury departments.

A spokesman for the Central Bank said: “The Central Bank has no regulations or requirements for banks to record calls.”
