Identity of Garda informer revealed to gang

A Garda informer whose life was put at risk after his identity was released to a criminal gang has received a six-figure settlement after suing the State.

The man, whose identity is being withheld by the Irish Examiner because of threats to his life, took the action after Garda and DPP statements outlining his role as an informer were handed to the three-man gang who had been charged with armed robbery.

The 49-year-old was forced to relocate to a European country in fear of his life from criminal elements in his native Limerick.
