Jobs Minister Richard Bruton urged people not to be alarmed that the Government would continue on with firm spending limits once the country has exited the emergency bailout.

Finance Minister Michael Noonan is believed to be drawing up a set of proposals to go into place when the country regains its economic sovereignty.

Mr Bruton denied that people who had expected the end of the bailout to see the end of austerity would be disappointed by the move. He said the economic plan was intended to avoid the mistakes of the past and restore economic confidence, if as planned Ireland leaves the IMF-EU-ECB bailout at the end of the year.
