Sometimes sexy Beyoncé bans snappers from Irish gigs
Clearly not for Beyoncé, who is so paranoid about her image that she has banned photographers from her two sell-out concerts in Ireland tonight and tomorrow.
The superstar was apparently so upset over unapproved photographs taken during her Super Bowl performance earlier this year that her management told a website that published them to take them down.
Those photos depicted her as veritable whirlwind of flared nostrils, pouting lips, flailing hair, straining muscles, and fierce demeanour. The irony that she named her stage alter-ego Sasha Fierce seems to have been buried under tear-sodden Kleenex.
Not to be dictated to, the website published the Beyoncé empire’s reaction which became the subject of a million online jokes complete with doctored photos of the singer morphed into the Incredible Hulk and other such fearsome creations.
But now the joke’s on the media with the Incredible Sulk having ordered a ban on any photographers snapping her while she’s strutting her stuff on stage.
Newspapers and other outlets wanting to report on her shows will have to register for access to a downloadable set of photographs taken by one official tour snapper and specially selected.
Beyoncé kicked off her world tour last month in Europe but already media groups in the US are preparing for her shows there later in the summer and have jointly penned a letter to her management asking them to reconsider the ban.
The letter, which European and other news organisations have been asked to back, points out that Beyoncé, famous for her high-energy dance routines, is obviously not familiar with one move — the backfire.
“Your ban has resulted in the posting of intentionally created prank photographs of Beyoncé that have been far more unflattering than the original ones and which have gone viral.”
So far, the lady’s not for turning, although what she plans to do about the uncensored photos that will be taken of her on tour by audience members with camera-phones is not clear.
Perhaps eventually they’ll also be told to stay outside and watch her live by video-feed in the car park as she shakes her booty to empty arenas. She used to be hypnotic but is she now neurotic? A picture might paint a thousand words on the subject — if only she’d let us take one.
Superstar Beyoncé touched down in Ireland yesterday, but the diva’s movements were kept under wraps by her huge entourage of minders, handlers, and advisers.
The ‘Crazy In Love ’singer is in Dublin to perform two sell-out shows in the O2 tonight and tomorrow night.
Tickets for both are like gold dust, with online sites offering two standing tickets for €299, with a pair of seated tickets being sold for €399.
Some more tickets were recently made available by Ticketmaster at regular prices, but these have since been snapped up.
In her room, the diva wants red toilet-paper, her bathroom thoroughly cleaned with anti-bacterial products, and a large supply of new white towels.
As well as sofas, chairs, tables, and an elaborate flower display, there also has to be a state-of-the-art vanity area.
While no alcohol is required, fizzy soft drinks are requested, along with a supply of mineral water.
Food-wise she wants baked and seasoned chicken, with vegetables such as green beans, spinach, and broccoli.
Meanwhile, at every gig on the tour, she has picked a local charity and asked fans to bring along either goods or cash to help the organisation.
In Ireland it’s the Simon Community, and volunteers will be at the O2 to collect fans’ offerings. They are appealing for clothes, hats, scarves, belts, and handbags. Other items, which must be unopened, include toothpaste, hair gel, and make-up.
