An engineer’s report will play a key role in establishing how a little boy died in a freak fireplace accident in his family home.

Gardaí have conducted a forensic examination at the scene of the tragedy in Coolgreen, White’s Cross, on the northern outskirts of Cork City, as part of their probe into the death of five-year-old Fionn Dawson on Tuesday.

Fionn, who had just returned from a morning in pre-school, suffered severe injuries when a fireplace collapsed and fell on him as he played in the home.
