Man unzipped girl’s jeans in car, court hears
Eamon Power, aged 35, of Bresheen, Kilmallock, Co Limerick, and also with an address at Green Rd, Kilmallock, pleaded not guilty at Limerick Circuit Court to sexually assaulting the girl on three occasions.
The alleged victim, now aged 19, who cannot be named, said she was shocked and terrified at what occurred and jumped from the car. When she got back into the car, she sat into the back and said nothing.
The incident happened on the October bank holiday weekend in 2008 after Mr Power drove her to an industrial estate in Kilmallock. She got her phone to ring her father, but Mr Power asked her not to do so.
In two previous incidents, she said the accused attempted to place his hand on her breast when visiting her house with his then girlfriend.
She said the first incident occurred in Jul 2007, after she had turned 14.
She was sitting on a couch, texting a friend, when the accused kept saying, “I’d love to be your age”. He then leaned over and tried to touch her breast. He did not succeed and when she told him she would tell her mother, he threatened to kill her.
She was shocked as he was a stranger at the time.
The following month, the accused was again at her house visiting her mother with his then girlfriend.
Mr Power’s girlfriend and her mother were trying on dresses for a wedding.
Mr Power’s girlfriend asked her to pluck his eyebrows and as she did this, he touched her breast with the palm of her hand.
As he did so, he had a snigger on his face, she said.
Mr Power, she said, also asked her sick questions.
In Sept 2009, she sent him a text saying she was not hiding what he did to her any more.
He replied that he had great time for her and not to tell her mother.
Cross-examined by Mark Nicholas, defending, the woman said she did not ring her father after the incident in the industrial estate as she was afraid to do so.
