Waterford Regional Hospital apologised to an 8-year-old girl who has been left tetraplegic as a result of injuries received at her birth.

The apology was read out in the High Court as part of the settlement of Alex Butler’s action for damages against the HSE, with a €1.4m interim payment.

Mr Justice Sean Ryan was told that if Alex was born 10-12 minutes earlier, she would not be physically disabled, the court was told. Alex is confined to a wheelchair.
