Huge bookings boost for B&Bs
Online bookings for B&Bs rose by 62% and trade bookings by 26% over the first three months of this year, compared to the corresponding period last year.
A B&B Ireland team of 12 will be representing the island-wide body at Meitheal 2013 in the RDS, Dublin, this week.
Meitheal, one of the biggest trade events on the Irish tourism calendar, is expected to attract about 300 tour operators from around the world.
B&B Ireland will be giving the tour operators a taste of the real Irish bed and breakfast, according to its acting chief executive, Mary Doogan.
“They will be showcasing the food, welcome and hospitality given to customers when they stay in a town, country or farmhouse home in Ireland,” he said.
Ms Doogan said they were delighted with the bookings’ boost and the fact that they had more new members in Northern Ireland this year who would be meeting the growing demand for breaks across the border.
Meitheal is one of the biggest trade events in the Irish tourism calendar.
It is organised by Fáilte Ireland in conjunction Tourism Ireland and is open to Fáilte Ireland-approved operators.
B&B Ireland, the largest promotional organisation for the B&B sector in Ireland has 1,000 members.
