Facebook tests charge to contact celebrities

Facebook users may have to pay for sending a message to celebrities or others outside their circle of ‘friends’.

The social networking giant has launched a test scheme on some users in a number of countries, including Ireland, in an effort to reduce spam.

The site, which had said it is “free and always will be”, is testing the scheme on a sliding scale of price in terms of popularity.
