Oireachtas calorie counts to make fat boys slim

Political heavyweights will be encouraged to cut down on the stodge when calorie counts are included on all Oireachtas menus.

The move is an attempt to get restaurants and cafes to follow suit as Health Minister James Reilly promotes the initiative as a way to cut obesity.

Restaurateurs have put up fierce resistance to the introduction of calorie counts on menus, claiming it could cost the trade some €110m a year.
