Information on 4x4 may help catch raiders
Officers believe anyone who may have witnessed the black Lexus 4x4 being parked — outside a concrete products’ yard on the outskirts of Cork City — might help gardaí solve a serious crime.
The 131-C registered vehicle was stolen from a woman who was robbed of a substantial amount of cash after being threatened by armed men in her home.
The robbery took place last Wednesday at a house at Dromboy South, on the main Carrignavar to Burnfort road.
Three masked raiders armed with a rifle, taser, and a hammer burst into the house shortly before 9pm and tied up the woman who is in her late 50s.
They threatened her before robbing a five-figure sum from the house and made their escape in the family’s Lexus.
The 4x4 was found abandoned at 9am the following day at the entrance to Twohig’s concrete yard, Old Mallow Rd.
Supt Pat Lehane, leading the investigation, yesterday renewed a public appeal for information which could lead to the capture of the three raiders.
He said gardaí are particularly anxious to hear from anybody who may have seen the robbers park the Lexus at the entrance to the concrete yard.
Gardaí believe the raiders spent no more than 15 minutes in the woman’s house before fleeing with the cash.
“There was a number of different southbound routes they could have taken from the house before leaving the vehicle at Twohig’s concrete yard,” said Supt Lehane.
“We are anxious to speak to anybody who may have seen the Lexus on any roads in the area after 9.15pm last Wednesday and before 9am the following morning.”
Gardaí also believe the three raiders could have been watching the house before they burst in.
Therefore, they are also looking to speak to any- body who saw any suspicious activity in the Dromboy South area between 8pm and 9pm last Wednesday.
The men, who all spoke with Cork accents, were described as being between 5ft8in and 5ft10in tall.
