Savita’s husband says he is unhappy with ‘shortcomings’ of HSE report
He intends to send representatives to meet the inquiry team so they can issue a “robust response” on his behalf.
Praveen Halappanavar spent the past four days reading the report before revealing, through his legal team, that he believes it contains “shortcomings” and “issues that need to be clarified”.
According to RTÉ News, Mr Halappanavar does not believe the report explains why Savita died, or why they were treated as they were at University Hospital Galway.
It is understood the HSE clinical review indicates that one request for a termination was made by the couple. Mr Halappanavar has long maintained three such requests were made.
It is believed the report says a request for a termination was not recorded in Savita’s medical notes, that doctors knew the foetus was not viable, and that Savita had an infection on the day she was admitted to the hospital.
Mr Halappanavar’s solicitor, Gerard O’Donnell, will meet with the HSE inquiry team in the next week, along with a family friend of the Halappanav-ars and a medical expert.
The final draft of the report will go to Cabinet before it is published. It is set to be made public before or on the day of Savita’s inquest on Apr 8.
Tony Canavan, chief operating officer at the Galway/Roscommon Hospital Group, said the HSE would like to meet with Mr Halappanavar.
A spokesperson for University Hospital Galway would not comment last night.
