A heartbroken mother who found out on Friday night that her only son had been killed in an accident in Thailand received flowers from him on Saturday for Mother’s Day.

Niall Walsh, 33, from Cullairbaun, Athenry, Co Galway, died in a motorbike accident in Thailand on Friday.

His parents Liam and Teresa were informed of the tragedy on Friday night and on Saturday, flowers were delivered to their home which were from their deceased son.

He moved to Thailand with his girlfriend last year. Niall, who is also survived by his only sister Noelle, was working as a boat engine mechanic in Thailand.

He died when he was knocked off his motorbike by a car on Friday and another car then collided with him causing fatal injuries.

Athenry parish priest Fr Tony King said: “The area is shocked and deeply saddened. Niall was well known and liked and people are so saddened for the family. It is a terrible tragedy and our hearts go out to them.”

He said the family was working with the Department of Foreign Affairs making arrangements to have Niall’s body flown home.
