A garda needed 25 stitches to his face and another sustained a suspected broken arm after they were attacked when responding to an incident in south Dublin yesterday.

Six people were arrested following the assault, in which a garda was struck in the face at a house at Redwood Lawn in Tallaght at about 4am.

Gardaí from Tallaght station had been responding to reports of a disturbance. When they entered the property, they were confronted and set upon by a number of people. They called for back-up and up to five units of the force responded.
