Suspect arrested minutes after city-centre bank raid

Gardaí arrested a suspect 50 minutes after a man threatened bank staff in Cork City with a handgun and robbed around €3,000.

The man, described as being white, burst into the AIB branch at North Main St shortly before 4.05pm yesterday while a small number of customers were inside. The lone raider, who wore a short black jacket, blue jeans, and what was described as a camouflage-type cap or hat, then ran northwards from the bank in the direction of the River Lee quays.

According to gardaí, who are studying CCTV footage, the suspect was around 5ft 10in tall, of medium build, believed to be in his mid to late 30s.
