A picturesque village gifted lands by Cork County Council will be transformed with the development of a former “eyesore” into a scenic park with sports facilities and a playground.

Residents of the north Cork village of Lyre, given a one-acre site on which an old sewage works was located, plan to develop what used to be wasteland into a much needed amenity.

The council last week agreed to transfer the land, which was in its ownership, to Lyre Community Culture Sport and Leisure Association for the development of amenities in the village.
