A mother whose daughter has epilepsy has had to resort to her mobile phone to record seizures, because the hospital units where she could be monitored are closed due to a of lack of funds to staff them.

As well as trying to control the convulsions by giving her daughter Ciara an oral suppository, Annette Murphy must use a mobile phone to film the seizure.

“It’s the only way to get footage of what is happening to Ciara,” Annette says. “I don’t have a video camera and because the epilepsy monitoring units [EMUs] aren’t open, it’s the only way of showing the doctors what happens when a seizure occurs.”
