Former Fianna Fáil cabinet minister John O’Donoghue, 56, now driving a revival of the party in Kerry, yesterday dismissed suggestions it is still relying on the ‘old guard’ in the county.

Several key positions of the Fianna Fáil organisation in the new five-seat Kerry constituency, including Mr O’Donoghue as public relations officer, are filled by long-time party activists, some with decades of service.

However, the former justice minister and ceann comhairle insisted the party was attracting new and younger people.
