Deasy: No incentive to invest in the regions

Fine Gael TD John Deasy has accused the IDA of ignoring regions outside of Dublin, Cork, and Galway despite worsening unemployment problems in such areas.

He has called for the regional aid or investment aid guidelines for foreign firms investing in areas of high unemployment to be “amended immediately” by the Department of Enterprise, Trade, and Innovation.

Mr Deasy made his comments in response to IDA chief executive Barry O’Leary, who said last week that, even with regional incentives, it was proving increasingly difficult to convince firms to invest outside the major cities.
