Councillors are to provide Cork’s county manager with documented proof of how some insurance firms have hiked premiums for householders and businesses hit by last June’s floods — even though they are now refusing them flood cover.

County manager Martin Riordan recently promised to tackle the Insurance Federation if he was provided with firm evidence that insurers were refusing flood cover in certain areas and also increasing premiums.

St Vincent de Paul says it has two cases where premiums were hiked up by more than 300%.
