Coalition at odds over tax on high earners

Disagreement between the Coalition partners over the taxation of high earners has intensified after Jobs Minister Richard Bruton said such measures would put foreign companies off investing in Ireland.

The Fine Gael TD said Ireland is “fighting” for investment in a “competitive environment” and the Government “has made a conscious decision to keep the tax on work low because we need to promote employment”.

But the junior minister in his department, Labour’s Sean Sherlock, said it was “ill-advised to suggest that there are not further taxation measures that can be taken”.
