Teen up all night ... to get mum a €50 bed

One Blarney teenager is definitely going to be in his mother’s good books for 2013 after queuing 15 hours overnight to buy her a bed fit for a queen.

Being a humble first-year college student without the means for a pricey present, Christian McSweeney, 18, scoured the newspapers for a deal and found a bargain bed from the heavens available in the Top Drawer outlet in Carrigtwohill, Cork.

The retailer was offering a bed and mattress worth €1,150 for a staggering €50 to the lucky customer through the door first on Friday morning. So eager was Christian to get the gift for his mother, he and friend Stephen took to the shop’s car park from 8.30pm on Thursday until the doors opened yesterday morning.
