Nearly half of us worry about an elderly parent or other relative during the winter, it has emerged.

However, the AA Home Rescue poll of 6,500 people found that family members are least likely to ask if their older relatives are on top of their bills.

It found that 49% of people worry about an elderly relative living alone during winter.
