Mandiant provides security products and services that find and stop advanced attackers who have bypassed IT security controls.

At present, it is one of only four companies certified to respond to cyber security attacks in Britain via the “cyber incident response” programme.

Mandiant said there will be roles in software engineering in its product development section.

The facility will also serve as its European base for security operations and so it wants to hire people with information technology and security operations expertise.

Dave Merkel, the chief technology officer, said Mandiant wanted Ireland to drive its growth in Europe as well as to support the US market.

“We look forward to joining Ireland’s well-established security cluster, the availability of top-tier engineering talent, and the benefits of working in such a pro-business environment.”

Meanwhile, Energy Minister Pat Rabbitte yesterday announced 150 construction jobs would be created due to a large wind energy project at Mount Lucas in Co Offaly.

Mr Rabbitte was speaking at the start of works on Bord na Móna’s €140m investment which will see 30 high-spec turbines constructed to provide eco-friendly electricity for up to 50,000 households.

“I congratulate Bord na Móna on its development of this key project, which will underpin the company’s diversification strategy, support Ireland’s energy policy objectives and demonstrate the potential which the Midlands has for the development of significant renewable energy projects,” he said.

“Today is a major step forward for the company as Mount Lucas represents a very substantial investment by Bord na Móna in the renewable sector.

“When completed, Mount Lucas will make a considerable contribution to achieving the balance required in Ireland’s energy mix.”
