Murder hunt as body found

A murder investigation has been launched by gardaí in Dublin after the body of a foreign man was found stabbed at an apartment block in Ballymun.

Murder hunt as body found

Gardaí received a 999 call from the owner of one of the apartments shortly after 4pm yesterday. That person had gone to check his property as he had concerns about it.

When officers went to the Linnbhla apartment block at Santry Cross they found the dead man in a first floor property. Gardaí said the victim was aged 30 to 40 and confirmed he was a foreigner. State pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy travelled to the scene and carried out a preliminary examination. She confirmed the man had suffered a knife wound.

The spokesman said gardaí are working with international partners to establish the man’s identity as well as trying to establish a timeline for the incident.

The area was sealed off and a technical examination by the Garda Technical Bureau was under way last night. The body was due to be removed to the city morgue and an autopsy is expected to be carried out this morning.

Gardaí confirmed that a murder investigation has begun and asked that anyone with information, particularly anyone who was at or near the apartment complex between Nov 30 and Dec 5 to contact them at Ballymun Garda Station. That incident room can reached on 01 666 4400 or alternately anyone with information can contact the Garda confidential line on 1800 666 111.
