Starr arrested as police widen Savile investigation

English entertainer Freddie Starr was in police custody last night to face questioning about sex crimes related to the Jimmy Savile inquiry.

Starr arrested as police widen Savile investigation

The former comedian, 69, had already claimed he wanted to talk to investigators after he faced allegations he had abused a teenage girl. He branded Savile as a “disgusting” person and attacked a photographer who approached him outside his home.

He was arrested in Warwickshire and police confirmed the move was part of its investigation into alleged sex crimes in the Savile-era.

Paedophile and former singer Gary Glitter has already been questioned as part of the same inquiry and was released on Sunday.

Savile has now been linked to more than 300 abuse allegations and Scotland Yard has reopened many lines of inquiry.

Yesterday it emerged the dead DJ’s estate, worth £4.3m (€5.3m), has been frozen pending the outcome of the cases against him.

Savile’s relatives called for the cash to be donated to an organisation to tackle sex crimes or a police anti-paedophilia body.
