365,000 people await out-patient appointments

At least 365,000 people are waiting for out-patient appointments, it has emerged.

The Department of Health’s special delivery unit took the first electronic download of the list from all of the hospitals yesterday.

While no definitive figures are available yet, the unit said it was the first step towards setting up an electronic booking and referrals system.
