Appeal over fourth suspicious approach to child

Gardaí have appealed for help in tracing a man who made a suspicious approach to a young girl in Limerick, the fourth such incident in the city in the past month.

The latest approach was made when a man attempted to get a girl into a van on Wednesday, Oct 10.

The girl was walking along Cathedral Place when a man driving a red van stopped to speak to her. The girl alleged the man told her that her mother had asked him to take her to school.

According to gardaí, the girl said she felt strange about the approach. She rebuffed the man’s advances and walked towards school. Gardaí said the girl reported the matter to a garda whom she met outside her school.

“Gardaí from Henry Street have examined some CCTV footage from the area and can confirm the presence of the red van on Cathedral Place; however, the film is of poor quality,” a source said.

“We would appeal to the driver of this van to come forward to assist in our investigations. Gardaí from Henry St are investigating this incident and anyone with information is asked to contact them at 061 212 400 or any Garda station.”
