Health Minister James Reilly stood over his selection of two primary care centres for his Dublin constituency and said the HSE had recommended them as “high priority” areas as far back as 2007.

Dr Reilly said the criteria used to pick Swords and Balbriggan as extra locations for centres was based on a series of considerations.

Dr Reilly was speaking in the Dáil last night after the resignation of his junior minister Roisín Shortall, who left her position in protest over the lack of support for the health reforms outlined in the Programme for Government.
