Gardaí have moved a step closer to bringing charges in relation to the discharge of firearms and paramilitary displays at the funeral of murdered terror leader Alan Ryan last Saturday.

Officers hope they will be able to gather additional evidence from the questioning of 17 people arrested yesterday. More than 200 gardaí, including elite armed units, swooped on 30 locations across three counties under Operation Ambience.

They arrested 16 people, 15 men and one woman, ranging in age from 20 to 60 at dawn. Three imitation firearms, mobile phones, computers, and a number of files were also seized.
