The Automobile Association has also asked drivers to take extra care after serious incidents in counties Cork, Tipperary, and Wexford followed the death of four young people in a crash in Co Offaly on Friday.

In Tipperary, gardaí are investigating a single-vehicle collision in the village of Holycross at 2.30am of yesterday morning. Two men, aged 19 and 20, were seriously injured and were taken to South Tipperary General Hospital in Clonmel.

Gardaí in Cork are investigating a crash on the outskirts of the city which saw a car plough into a wall on Saturday night. The driver and his two passengers, two aged 19 and one aged 20, were seriously injured in the collision at Lehenaghmore Hill in Togher at 11.30pm.

They were taken to Cork University Hospital where it is understood they are in a serious but not life-threatening condition.

The road was closed yesterday to allow a forensic examination, and diversions were put in place.

In Co Wexford, a man and a woman in their 20s were seriously injured when the car they were travelling in crashed at 7.15pm on Saturday on the Gorey to Carnew road. No other vehicle was involved.

There was another crash in north Wexford, just a short distance from the scene of Saturday night’s crash at Knockbrandon, outside Gorey Town. A collision occurred between a car and a van at Clonamona, Gorey, at 11am yesterday.

The injured were removed from the scene by emergency services to Wexford General Hospital.

Meanwhile, the four men killed in Friday’s crash in Co Offaly have been named as brothers David, Darren, and Ryan Doyle, aged 24, 27 and 17, who all died when their car collided with a minibus. The driver, Lee Bryan, 24, was also pronounced dead at the scene.

All four of the victims were from Portarlington in Co Laois.
