Toddler dies in apartment block window fall

The girl, who was less than 18 months old, fell from the sixth floor of the Cross Guns Quay apartment building in Phibsboro, Dublin.

The incident happened at 4pm. The girl was taken to Temple St Hospital, but was pronounced dead a short time later.

The complex where the incident happened is part of a renovated former mill and looks out onto Royal Canal. It is close to Phibsboro Rd.

On one side of the apartment is an enclosed carpark and on the other a canal-bank walk.

Gardaí at Mountjoy have appealed for any witnesses to come forward. They are treating the death as a tragic accident.

It was the second time in four months a toddler has lost their life in this way at a Dublin apartment complex.

In April, a 21-month-old boy, whose parents were originally from Brazil and Poland, died from the injuries he received when he fell from the fifth floor of an apartment in Inchicore, Co Dublin.

Following the boy’s death, a fellow resident of the Tramyard complex voiced concerns about the safety of the windows for young children.

Two years ago, a 16-month old girl died when she fell from an apartment off Eyre Square in Galway.

In Scotland yesterday, a three-year-old boy died after falling from a window at a block of flats.
