Rubberbandits fuming over festival’s nationality gaffe
The Limerick rap duo of Blindboy Boat Club and Mr Chrome were furious when organisers made the gaffe on the festival’s website, and immediately demanded that it be corrected.
The Rubberbandits, who clocked up a phenomenal 9.3m views for their outrageous YouTube hit Horse Outside, had their hometown listed as Limerick in a brief biography on the Fringe’s website. But organisers still referred to them as English.
The wacky pair, who cover their faces with cheap plastic bags, will be in Edinburgh for three weeks in August, performing 12 one-hour shows for adult audiences in Scotland’s capital.
The Rubberbandits took to Twitter in the wake of the mistake, stating: “As much as we’d love to swear allegiance to Lizzie, could ye change our country of origin from ‘England’ to Ireland on yer site?”
They then sent a second tweet: “The Edinburgh Fringe Festival website has given our country of origin as England. It’s our own fault for drinking that cup of soup they gave us.”
Organisers later replied: “Your country of origin has been changed by our box office team. But please be aware that changes can take up to six hours to appear.”
The festival website is now corrected and the duo have been preparing diligently for their marathon Fringe stint.
Besides Horse Outside, their other hit numbers include I Wanna Fight Your Father, Black Man, and Spastic Hawk.
The Rubberbandits said: “Twelve nights in a row in Edinburgh is getting close. We’ve been running around the field with our greyhound lavender in order to build stamina.”
Last week, model Madeline Mulqueen, who became a huge hit after starring in the Horse Outside video, celebrated her 22nd birthday in a Dublin nightclub.
