Quinn Jr feels the heat with job in Mountjoy kitchen
The jailed young businessman is now working in the canteen in Mountjoy Training Unit.
Mr Quinn Jr, prisoner number 81171, will feel the heat as he helps churn out three sets of meals for 122 inmates every day.
As he arrived back yesterday from the Supreme Court, where he was appealing a civil contempt order, he donned his apron for the meal-time rush.
It’s a different environment from what he is used to but Sean Quinn Jr has not hidden himself in his cell since he landed in the unit on Saturday.
Preparing meals for his fellow inmates is not considered an easy job.
The prison system places a strong emphasis on the standard of cooking in all jails and offers qualifications for inmates in the area.
The Irish Examiner also understands Mr Quinn Jr is still in a double cell but is no longer on his own after another inmate was assigned there.
As a new entrant in the kitchen, Mr Quinn Jr will be under pressure to cope with the sheer level of food preparation, frantic demand during mealtimes and clean-up afterwards.
A 28-day menu operates in the prison, whereby a different menu is provided every day before the cycle restarts.
Breakfast typically involves cereals, breads and tea. Dinner is taken at midday and sees chicken, pasta, beef and bacon on the menu, while, in the evening, tea takes the form of a fry, chips, chicken pies or sausages.
Mr Quinn Jr chose the kitchen over other options, including welding, computers, laundry, environmental waste management, painting and industrial cleaning.
While there are 122 inmates in the unit, it has a recommended capacity of 96.
