Give Michaela evidence to foreign police, say lawyers

The lawyers who represented the two men cleared of killing Michaela McAreavey have said all evidence in the case should be taken from Mauritian police and given to foreign investigators.

Sanjeev Teeluckdharry and Rama Valayden, whose clients Avinash Treebhowon and Sandip Mooneea were found not guilty of murder last Thursday, said the country’s Major Crime Investigation Team were “incompetent”.

They called for the investigation to be re-opened, but said the new probe should not be under the supervision of MCIT. “All the evidence which is in possession of this team must be secured from them until foreign investigators do come,” said Mr Valayden.
