Politicians will not act on climate change until they are forced to bow to public pressure, according to former president Mary Robinson.

She said a new set of arguments and moral and ethical imperatives were needed to motivate decision-makers.

“Until there is greater demand from people in all walks of life for meaningful action on climate change — political leaders will continue to be able to return home from unsuccessful climate conferences with little fear of retribution.”
