Whole estate up for €150k
The problem is you have to buy another 62 houses with it as the whole housing estate is up for grabs for just €150,000.
Tomorrow the entire 63 properties on the Glendale estate, in Tullow, Co Carlow, with planning permission for another 68 houses, go under the hammer for less than what one of the houses would have cost during the boom period, when they had a guide price of €200,000 each.
And already McCormack Auctioneers have been inundated with calls from prospective buyers.
Marcus McCormack admitted: “We have a lot of interest already, especially from builders from out of town”.
McCormacks are conducting the sale on behalf of a bank who’s client has gone into receivership.
The estate was initially built beside Glendale retirement home, and was going to be marketed as a retirement village.
Originally purchase of the houses had been restricted to retired people, however all those restrictions have now been lifted and the whole place is on general sale.
Some of the properties are completed, whilst others have kitchens and bathrooms already fitted but need to be finished off.
The 63 houses are built in terraced rows and the foundations for the remainder are in place.
McCormack claimed: “I know people think auctioneers hype their properties up, but honestly 63 houses for that kind of money is the bargain of all bargains.”
One slight snag might be the fact that there are outstanding planning contributions due to Carlow County Council.
“There are certain fees still due, and whoever buys the estate will have to come in and negotiate with us over them,” a spokesperson confirmed.
Allowing for that, at this price it appears the ghosts are about to be banished from this estate at least.
