Cork to get social for networking event

Cork is set to host one of the world’s top 10 social media events this weekend for the second year in a row.

To celebrate Social Media Day, a number of free events will take place in the Rubicon Centre in Cork Institute of Technology from 10.30am to 4pm. All of the workshops have already been filled.

Event co-organiser Margaret Smith says this level of interest should see them rank among the top three events in the world.

“We were very high up on the list last year and with all the workshops filled already, we should place even higher this year,” said Ms Smith.

The workshops cover topics such as technical sides of blogging, styling items for blog photography, and how to make money from blogging.

Social media users can attend talks and events that are planned for the day.

Speakers include the co-founder of Coder Dojo Bill Liao, Maxroam’s Pat Phelan, and food writer Lilly Higgins.

In addition, a “tweet-up” will take place at 7.30pm in the Bowery on Saturday, with complimentary food and drink.
