The major IT failure which has caused havoc to Ulster Bank and the wider RBS Group has been fixed in Britain — but has yet to be solved in Ireland.

A spokesperson for the under-fire firm confirmed the problems facing Royal Bank of Scotland and NatWest have been fixed, meaning services in Britain are returning to normal.

However, similar problems at Ulster Bank which relate to the same systems glitch have yet to be resolved, meaning more than 100,000 Irish customers are set to suffer further disruption before the end of this week.
