More cuts on cards despite Croke Park savings

Business leaders are pushing for further cuts to the public service pay bill despite a review of the Croke Park agreement that shows over €900m in savings were made over the last year.

However, opposition parties claimed that savings cited in the second review of the deal with trade unions did not include generous retirement packages paid to public service workers earlier this year.

Public Expenditure Minister Brendan Howlin said further cuts could be on the cards in health, education, and local government.
