Chinese man charged over disguised stun gun

A Chinese man living in Ireland for 11 years was arrested in Cork yesterday and charged with having a stun gun, dangerous driving, and failing to stop his car for gardaí.

Gda Martin O’Connell arrested Wei Qiao, aged 31, of Carrin Court, Drogheda, Co Louth, yesterday, and charged him with a total of six counts related to an alleged incident in the early hours of yesterday.

One of the charges states that at New Mallow Rd, Cork, Mr Wei had in his possession without lawful authority or reasonable excuse a stun gun disguised as a flash lamp, made or adapted for use for causing injury or incapacitating a person.

The other charges filed against Mr Wei related to alleged driving offences.

Mr Wei is accused of failing to stop his vehicle when required by gardaí at North City Link Rd and at Dominic St, Cork.

He is also charged with dangerous driving at New Mallow Rd, New City Link Rd, and Dominic St, Cork.

Insp Eileen Foster said there was no State objection to bail on condition that Mr Wei would be required to sign at Drogheda garda station three times a week.

The case was adjourned by Judge Eugene O’Kelly until Sep 5 for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Co-accused Chunjie Wong aged 31, of the same address, had her case adjourned to the same date. Ms Wong faces the single charge of having a stun gun at New Mallow Rd.
