Hotel takes a trip to Wisteria Lane

Youghal’s Walter Raleigh Hotel will transform into Wisteria Lane when the venue hosts a charity fundraiser based on Desperate Housewives later this month.

Food, cocktails, fashion, comedy, and dancing will tempt an attendance that would, ideally, convene unbeknownst to husbands, boyfriends — or both!

The Apr 21 extravaganza will benefit St Vincent de Paul.

The ticket-only event is being organised by fashion retailers Michael McGrath and Lil Danne, of Genesis and Danelle respectively.

It follows “repeated requests for a similar night to the now legendary Sex in the City theme party we ran four years ago”, says Michael.

The Walter Raleigh nearly closed last year, but has since been refurbished. “We’re delighted to help the hotel showcase its capacity to cater for a major event,” Michael said.

Local paparazzi and Community Radio Youghal will greet guests as they stride the red carpet from 7.30pm.

Seductive cocktails will titillate the taste buds of the would-be Brees and Gabrielles before the dinner gong summons them to buffet-style decadence in the main ballroom. This will be followed by a fashion show extravaganza of the spring and summer collections of Genesis and Danelle.

Offstage, there will be a weekend away award for the “best turned-out” lady. “We’re not looking for expensive or elaborate cocktail dresses,” Michael warns. “It’s just a fun, charity night for people to dress as best they can.”

Male participation will be largely confined to escorting ladies to their seats, though local radio’s Tommy Collins will serve as master of ceremonies.

Tickets at €25 are available from Genesis and Danelle only. “Payment won’t be accepted at the door,” insists Michael, “but anyone unable subsequently to attend will get a full refund.”
