Half of children making Confirmation in Kerry town say no to drink pledge

Half the children making their Confirmation in a Kerry town tomorrow have declined the traditional pledge on alcohol.

Of the 215 receiving the sacrament in Killarney, only 107 have signed up to abstain from drinking until the age of 18.

In some of the eight Killarney schools due to take part in the ceremony, the uptake is as low as 38%.
