Town showcases its entrepreneurial spirit as businesses display their ideas
The event, in Youghal’s Mall Arts centre, features people who participated in a business start-up course backed by a local area development programme and the Department of Social Protection.
A biodegradable and waterless toothbrush along with the retail development of children’s clothing, tree rock landscape services and innovations in the fields of counselling and therapy are among the projects being pursued and developed.
Organised by the Youghal Socio-Economic Development Group, the event will enable exhibitors to promote their schemes before an invite-only audience of seasoned business representatives, councillors and other commercial advisers.
It is hoped the guests will advise or assist the innovators in bringing their ideas to fruition in the market place, with consequent benefit to the town.
“Small industries will probably dictate Youghal’s future,” said development group manager Aileen Murray.
“So this is about the community helping itself and promoting that objective by giving new ideas exposure and, hopefully, valuable support to get them up and running.”
Guest speaker Jasmine Hyde, founder of Ballymaloe Relish, will address the gathering, drawing on her own experiences when she initiated what is now an international brand.
Other ideas being publicly aired are outdoor leisure, self-employment, personal and professional development and possible opportunities in the world of free range eggs and old vinyl/CD products.
The exhibitors will deliver short presentations of their business ideas, outlining their vision, product/service and targets along with their perceived investment opportunities.
It will be followed by a trade fair at which the invitees will browse the display stands and interact with the entrepreneurs.
