People being ‘drowned’ daily at shelterless bus stop
But tsunamis, cloud bursts, severe flooding, or an overflow from the Killarney Lakes are not to blame.
It is the lack of a shelter at a bus stop on the Tralee road that is causing the inundation.
Independent councillor Donal Grady raised the issue at a meeting of Killarney Town Council.
He proposed that the council write immediately to Transport Minister Leo Varadkar asking him to erect a shelter at the stop.
The stop near St Columbanus Home for older people is used by residents and tourists.
“This is a matter of extreme urgency, as people are being drowned every day,” said Mr Grady. “We have been waiting for over three years for this shelter to be erected. It’s a disgrace.”
He said every other town seemed to get proper bus shelters without problem, and Killarney, as Ireland’s top tourist town, should not be the exception.
He was supported by several other councillors and it was agreed to pursue Bus Éireann on the issue.
