Man freed after being quizzed over murder of pensioner

A MAN being questioned in connection with the murder of a pensioner at a retirement home was released without charge yesterday.

The 29 year old had been questioned in connection with the murder of Eddie Boylan, whose body was found at a house at Ravensdale Close in Kimmage, in Dublin, on Saturday afternoon.

He had been stabbed in the chest with a sword. A fire had also broken out at the man’s lodgings.

A 29-year-old man was arrested in Dublin city centre late on Saturday night and had been questioned under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

He was released without charge yesterday around noon. A file is being prepared for the DPP.

The Ravensdale Close retirement facility is run by Dublin City Council and it said yesterday it would provide any assistance it could to gardaí investigating Mr Boylan’s death.

The pensioner moved to the Kimmage facility at the start of last year and regularly watched horse racing at the Black Horse Inn pub across the road.

A full postmortem on Mr Boylan’s body found he died from stab wounds. It is understood when his body was found by the emergency services, the murder weapon was sticking out of his chest.

Gardaí are understood to be studying CCTV foot- age from a deli located close to Mr Boylan’s flat, in which a man was seen buying Zippo lighter fluid and some other items shortly before the estimated time of the attack on the pensioner.
