Dundons not allowed to attend mother’s funeral

MOURNERS who attended the funeral in Limerick yesterday of the mother of the notorious Dundon brothers were told by a priest to “hate what is evil”.

Dundons not allowed to attend mother’s funeral

Ann ‘Doll’ Dundon (nee McCarthy) died in London after being knocked down in a traffic incident.

Her sons Wayne, Dessie, Ger and John were not allowed out from prison for the funeral.

The white coffin was carried in a white hearse drawn by four white horses from Our Lady of Lourdes church for burial at Mount St Oliver cemetery.

About 50 people walked behind the coffin, followed by a black limo with blacked out windows.

Dessie Dundon is serving life for the murder of gang leader Kieran Keane in 2003; Wayne and John are awaiting trial on charges alleging threatening to kill; and Ger is serving five years for violent disorder and threatening to kill.

In his homily at the funeral Mass, Fr Damien Ryan, PP Our Lady of Lourdes parish, recalled St Paul’s words to the Romans on how we should live our lives.

“Hate what is evil, hold on to what is good; love one another with mutual affection; anticipate one another in showing honour. Do not grow slack in zeal, be fervent in spirit. Bless those who persecute you, bless and do not curse them. Do not repay anyone evil for evil; be concerned for what is noble in the sight of all. If possible, on your part, live at peace with all,” the priest said.

There was a discreet Garda presence.
