Four hospitals owed €60m in unpaid patient fees

FOUR of the country’s biggest hospitals between them amassed patient income debt totalling more than €60 million last year.

The debt is made up of unpaid charges by health insurance companies, emergency department fees, inpatient bed charges and other patient fees.

Tallaght Hospital in Dublin had the largest amount owed to it, at €16.4m.
